Natural cosmetics or also called organic cosmetics promise natural and – if not otherwise possible – at least near-natural substances. Preferably, the raw materials come from “controlled organic” cultivation. Many manufacturers of natural cosmetics point out that they do not use genetic engineering, petroleum-based ingredients, silicones or PEGs. Many problematic substances for the environment and health are not permitted in certified natural cosmetics, e.g. mineral oil-based microplastics and many preservatives.

How can I recognise natural cosmetics?
In Germany, mainly by the NATRUE seal, and in Europe by the COSMOS standard (founded by ECOCERT, BDIH, Cosmebio and Soil Association Organic). “Demeter” also distinguishes natural cosmetics.

Advice: Always check the ingredients. There are useful apps for this, such as ToxFox or Yuka. These show which ingredients are also contained in natural cosmetics and which are questionable.
